Thank you for participating in the consultation for the Kathleen Syme Centre!

Thank you for participating in the consultation for the Kathleen Syme Centre!

The first part of the  Kathleen Syme Centre consultation is now complete

In 2012 we have engaged with the Carlton community in various ways: information sessions, meetings with key organisations, an online forum, email, phone, and a variety of workshops. We have had conversations with the Aboriginal community, residents, seniors, students, education providers, community groups and other organisations.

We have analysed the community’s aspirations for the centre and grouped them into themes (available in the library section of this site). Most of the suggestions relate to activities and uses with the exception of a group of them that relate to the operation and design of the building; we have called them “draft design and operation principles”. We will consider these draft principles in the next stage of the project: design and operations planning.

Let us know what you think of the Draft Design and Operation Principles by participating in the Forum  section of this site. Hurry, this survey will close on Wednesday 2 May!

 Next Steps in the Project

The next step in the project is for Council to decide on a “model” for the Kathleen Syme Community Centre. This model will describe the general functions, activities and spaces that will be offered in the centre (it will not recommend a specific design at this early stage in the project). The model will bring together the community’s aspirations and the service needs documented in the Community Infrastructure Implementation Framework.

Council will consider the recommended model at the Future Melbourne Committee meeting on 8 May.  The recommendation is presented in the form of a report that will be available to the public through the City of Melbourne website four calendar days prior to the meeting.

Once the model is chosen, we will start the architectural design process and the planning of the centre’s operation.

What do you think about the draft principles to design and operate the Kathleen Syme Centre?

CLOSED: This discussion has concluded."

Throughout the community engagement process the Carlton community made several suggestions on how the centre could be designed and operated. These suggestions strongly align with the principles for the assessment of community infrastructure projects that Council endorsed in June 2010 in the Community Infrastructure Implementation Framework (CIIF). We have integrated the community's suggestions with the CIIF principles and will use these to guide the design and planning of the operations of the centre. You can find these draft principles in the Library section of this site.

What do you think about the draft principles?
